We are searching for a small number of dedicated, resilient and mature volunteers to join the InterVolve team working alongside the community at Softex Camp, Thessaloniki, Northern Greece
Community language speakers especially needed (Arabic, French and Greek)
InterVolve is a Greek, Non Profit Organisation taking grassroots action to facilitate basic human rights for refugees, migrants and vulnerable populations in Northern Greece. We fill gaps and offer resources and support. Since 2015, we have been fortunate to have had dedicated volunteers working alongside refugee communities in camps, and on urban projects. We are seeking new team members to help us keep our established programme of activities running.
Softex camp has been open since May 2016, and we have been present there with the community since that date. The population currently stands at around 450 people from diverse backgrounds. Most of the population live in “caravans”. The site is isolated in an industrial area a ten minute drive to the west of Thessaloniki city.
By working alongside community members for over a year we have established a good understanding of the community and a relationship of trust and collaboration with the residents.
We work alongside community members to offer a programme of Education, responsive Community, Crafts, Cultural and Sports activities and to deliver regular distributions of food, non food items through our boutique and door to door distribution programme. We work in collaboration with all actors on site.
Skills and Experience
Diversity is a strength at Intervolve, and is key to success for these projects. People with some, or all of the following experience or skills are welcome to apply:
Personal Attributes: We are searching for flexible, reliable, resilient, culturally sensitive, experienced, reflective and warm team-players, who will work in a respectful, inclusive, safe and community led way and in co-operation with the other NGOs and authorities on site. You should be prepared to be working within the dynamics of a small team (around ten volunteers) in a small growing volunteer organisation, and within the systems and structures we have in place.
Your Commitment: We are looking for people who are able to commit to a minimum of three weeks in the first instance. We have a code of conduct and a volunteer agreement to adhere to, and also require that volunteers participate in debrief and support sessions so that we can keep people safe, and to ensure we achieve the best we can with the resources we have.
Our Commitment: Support and induction training will be given and for long term volunteers we may be able to offer accommodation. We are currently working hard to build new ways to support volunteers and ensure they are able to contribute to the best of their potential whilst maintaining wellbeing.
Application and Information: We are working on our new website - but you can currently see a good snapshot of our existing team and work at our Facebook Page. https://tinyurl.com/y9q53lyu
